Buffalo Sabres forward Sam Reinhart, left, celebrates a first-period goal with teammates during a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets at MTS Centre on Jan. 10.Bruce Fedyck

Sam Reinhart scored a hat trick as the Buffalo Sabres halted their six-game losing skid with a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.

Sabres forward Evander Kane notched an assist on Reinhart's empty-net goal in his first game against the team that traded him last Feb. 11 in a multiplayer deal.

Marcus Foligno also scored for Buffalo (16-22-4) and Linus Ullmark made 42 stops.

Winnipeg (19-20-3) got goals from Blake Wheeler and Mathieu Perreault. Wheeler also had an assist and Bryan Little had two helpers. Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 25 shots.

The teams were tied 2-2 heading into the third period when Hellebuyck gave up a long rebound from Brian Gionta's point shot, which Foligno used to put the puck over the goalie at 4 minutes 12 seconds for his third goal of the season.

Reinhart's empty-netter came with 25.7 seconds left. Kane's assist had the crowd booing.

Five players involved in the Kane trade were on the ice, including Buffalo defenceman Zach Bogosian and Jets forwards Drew Stafford and Joel Armia and defenceman Tyler Myers.

The razzing of Kane started during the teams' warm-ups, when he was the first Sabre on the ice. Within seconds, he stepped on a puck and fell, sparking fans at MTS Centre to cheer his tumble.

One the game began, Kane was booed when he touched the puck and was the target of chants such "best trade ever" and "in the shower."

The shower reference, and some fans sporting track suits, poked fun at a report last season that Kane had violated team rules in Vancouver by showing up to a meeting on game day in a track suit. Jets defenceman Dustin Byfuglien allegedly later threw the track suit into a cold tub or shower.

Buffalo silenced the crowd early as Reinhart's wrist shot from the top of a circle went past Hellebuyck at 1:37 of the opening period.

Wheeler evened it up at 5:21 when he deflected a shot from Little. It was Wheeler's 11th goal of the season and first in 13 games.

Reinhart scored his second goal of the game and 11th of the season when his shot went in off Jets defenceman Tobias Enstrom during a power play at 14:29.

Winnipeg tied it up on Perreault's power-play goal off a rebound 56 seconds into the second period, which stood up to a Buffalo coach's challenge for offside.

Perreault was replacing Mark Scheifele at centre, who was scratched with a lower-body injury.

Winnipeg plays host to San Jose on Tuesday and Buffalo visits Minnesota the same day.
