TORONTO -- Detroit Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg scored his 300th NHL goal in the first period against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre on Friday.

Zetterberg took the puck in the neutral zone and his long shot was mishandled by Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer for a goal at 16:21.

"I think I'll remember this one," Zetterberg said. "I just tried to get it on net, and to be honest I don't really know how it went in. It was a good dump. I just tried to use the defenseman as a screen and get it on net. I don't think I actually got it on net. It was a little bit wide, but I think it must have hit his pad and went in."

The Red Wings won 2-1 in overtime.

Zetterberg is the seventh Swede to score 300 in the NHL, and the fifth player in Red Wings history to have 300 goals and 800 points, joining Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman, Alex Delvecchio and Sergei Fedorov.

Last Saturday, Zetterberg he became the ninth Swedish player with 800 NHL points. The others are Mats Sundin, Daniel Alfredsson, Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Peter Forsberg, Markus Naslund and Tomas Sandstrom.

Zetterberg has four goals and 11 assists in 13 games this season.
